Super Bowl – Youth, Strength and Agility vs. Age, Wisdom and Stability

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest yearly events in the Kibrick household. Like almost all sports, the analogies to life itself seem endless, but with the Super Bowl, its ability to capture the entire nation’s attention takes it to another level.

This year’s game between Denver and Seattle has two very classic themes that define the battle. The first is offense versus defense. This Super Bowl pits what is considered the greatest offensive attacks of all time, led by Payton Manning and his NFL record setting Broncos, against, what many sports commentators believe is one of the toughest and stingiest defenses, the Seahawks led by Richard Sherman.

The classic theme that stands out for me however is between youth: strength and agility versus age: wisdom and stability. For the record, both have their obvious advantages, but again, never so clearly defined as in this year’s match up.
Denver’s Payton is 37 years old and a 16 year veteran. One of his leading receivers is Wes Welker, 32 years old and a 9 year veteran. Meanwhile, Seattle has  Russell Wilson, their 25 year old quarterback playing just his second year in the NFL and 25 year old Richard Sherman in only his third year in the league.

Even the style of the two quarterbacks could not be more polar opposites. Payton is arguably the smartest football mind to ever play the game and who almost never leaves the pocket or runs with the ball. While Russell Wilson is one of the physically strongest quarterbacks and always a big threat to run the ball.

So, how will these classic struggles play out? That question alone is enough reason to watch the most exciting sporting event of our era.
